A Mayfield Easter Prayer for Old Cornelians

By Teresa Rakowska

Dear God,

As we approach Easter,

Our memories of our years spent at Mayfield reach out to the beautiful Sussex countryside,

the lawns on our campus are full of daisies, the flower beds are full of snowdrops, primroses, daffodils, and the strong oak trees reach up to the sky.

The presence of nature is uplifting, restorative and a gift from you, our loving Creator.

Help us to use our actions and not just words to do all we can to preserve our environment and planet.

By contrast, the human world is problematic. Looking at our beautiful buildings and life of comfort and security remind us that as Christians we are called to love all our human beings, above all when they are needy and vulnerable.

Also, today humanity is contaminated with false ideas about you, our Good God, and what constitutes love, happiness and the fulness of life.

Help us to educate the youth of today in the true Catholic faith, which Cornelia herself discovered. This inspired and strengthened her throughout her life. May this also be our vision.

Dear God, we place before you our Old Cornelians and families who are suffering. Give them the strength to bear their pain, so that together with Christ on the Cross, it will bear fruit.

We remember Cornelia, whose final agony spanned Holy Week and Easter Week, the time the God incarnate passed through death to glory.

Though in a coma, she amazed everyone on Holy Saturday by bursting out with, Regina Coeli Laetare as the tower bell chimed the noon announcement of the resurrection.

God grant that the ‘Pax Vobis’ of Our Lord at this blessed season may bring peace for each and everyone.

Let our thoughts, words and actions resemble those of Mary our Mother and the Mother of God so none of them will be useless.

Amen
