Antonia devoted her life to Catholic education. To mark her legacy, Antonia wanted to ensure that as many girls as possible are given the opportunity to experience a Mayfield education. We are therefore inviting donations to the Antonia Beary Bursary Fund. This will provide financial support for a girl, who would otherwise have found a Mayfield education unaffordable.
When Cornelia Connelly arrived in Mayfield to have a picnic within the ruins of what is now Mayfield Chapel in 1863, she had a vision to renovate it to its former glory. Restoration of the Old Palace began in 1864 and the ruins of the 14th century hall were transformed into a Church within 14 months.
Today, Mayfield Chapel stands as a testament to Cornelia's dedication, but it now faces the pressing need for essential and costly repairs. These repairs are vital to ensuring the continued use of this historic site and preserving its architectural integrity for future generations to enjoy.
Notably, the Chapel serves as the final resting place for its esteemed foundress, Cornelia Connelly, making it not only a place of worship but also a significant historical landmark inviting visitors to reflect on her mission and the profound impact she had on countless lives.
