Getting to Know...

Fleur Girardet (1992)

What did you do after Mayfield?

After Mayfield, I took a gap year and went to Berlin as an au pair girl. I looked after a little boy and took German classes.

Who was your greatest influence at Mayfield?

I wouldn't say it was one person in particular. Every single person from our headmistress Sister Jean, to heads of houses, teachers or girls that for some of them became friends for life, all had a huge influence on me. Coming from France, I was amazed how caring and empathetic the staff and teachers could be. It was so unusual! The girls were so lively and welcoming, a little crazy too which I absolutely adored! It was like arriving in a place where I could at last be myself and be considered for who I am. Mayfield gave me self confidence and self-esteem.

Your best memory of Mayfield?

The real ones cannot be told!  I would say bed camping in the TV room during we and chatting in friends' bedrooms after dinner before lights out.

Where are you now?

I now live and work in Paris

Advice you’d give to your younger self?

Trust and respect yourself, don't be scared and have fun. You are a good person.
