Memories of Sr TJ

Please remember in your prayers Sr Teresa Joseph Barret (Sr TJ) who died peacefully on Saturday 10th June 2023, at Apley Grange, the SHCJ care home in Harrogate where she lived since 2019.

Sr TJ taught at Mayfield and was Housemistress of St Gabriel’s and St Dunstan’s from 1972-2000. An inspirational role model, teacher and friend for generations of Mayfield girls and staff, she will be greatly missed. Those who knew her will have many happy memories by which to remember her.

In recent times, Sr TJ had gradually spent more time in bed and asleep. Her short-term memory became very poor, but not her long-term recall of people. In the last fortnight her health had deteriorated further, and she had a small stroke. On Saturday morning, when a member of staff was with her, she had a second stroke, and died peacefully and almost immediately. Please also remember in your prayers Sr TJ’s family and members of the SHCJ community who were closest to her. May she rest in the peace of the Lord she loved so deeply and served so faithfully.
