Getting to Know... |
Motivational Monday
This week is Gabriela 'Gaby' Fok (2003), Senior Regulatory Affairs Manager
What did you do after Mayfield?
After Mayfield I read Biochemistry at University of Reading, followed by a Masters in Forensic Science at Anglia Ruskin University. After I got my MSc, I spent 9 months in Hong Kong (where my family was living at the time) in Discovery Bay, which is next door to... Disneyland Hong Kong.
Who was your greatest influence at Mayfield?
It is difficult to have one greatest influence at Mayfield. I had 3 main focuses when I was in Mayfield: Science, Music and Fencing. There are 3 teachers that I am forever grateful for: Mrs. Lesley Morcombe (Chemistry and Sixth form tutor); Mr. Christopher Herbert (Biology teacher) and Mr. Peter Collins (Church choir and music).
Your best memory of Mayfield?
Singing in the chapel and fencing. Also the weekends wandering the school grounds, and the friends that I have made and still spend too much free time with (And feel lonely if we don't text every other day).
Where are you now?
I am now based in Reading, working as an associate director in Regulatory Affairs in a pharmaceutical company that is focused on oncology and rare disease. I am also the chairperson for the volunteer Special Interest Network group for TOPRA (The Organisation for Professionals in Regulatory Affairs) in product information, as well as the leader of the workstream of communication and engagement for the taskforce lead by the ABPI (Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry) for electronic Product information.
Advice you’d give to your younger self?
You are never alone. Take your time, be yourself and treat people with respect. You don't need to know everything. Also don't grow up - it's overrated, and it's a trap!
