Women are under-represented in STEM university courses and occupations. Data from university courses suggest that women account for just 35% of STEM students in higher education. There has been an increase in the STEM workforce in the UK, now with over one million women in STEM careers, although still only accounting for 21% in these fields. We encourage more Mayfield girls to consider STEM subjects and careers, and on the evening of Tuesday 13th June, the girls had the opportunity to meet some of our inspirational Old Cornelians and to open their minds to new opportunities.
Thank you to OCs Jennifer Graham (1999), Mariya Tarabanouska (2016), Libby Dodd (2018), Rebecca Roberts (2005), Clare Scherer (1981), Gaby Fok (2003) and Bonnie Kwok (1997) who all shared their experiences, and the girls and their parents throughly enjoyed listening either in person or online and having their questions answered.
