Actions, Not Words is a core value that every Mayfield girl upholds, and recent examples from our OCs highlight this dedication.
This term, Harriet Onions (2024) and Lizzie von Halasz (2024) truly exemplified the spirit of taking action.

In April, Harriet completed the London Marathon to support Demelza, a children’s hospice and charity serving East Sussex, Kent, and Southeast London. Demelza offers essential clinical care and emotional support to babies, children, and young people facing serious or life-limiting conditions. Harriet’s efforts raised an impressive £2,121 to support this vital work.

Meanwhile, in May, Lizzie travelled to Bolivia with Engineers in Action to assist in building a life-changing bridge. Their mission was to construct a 37-metre-long suspended footbridge over the Chunchuli Alto River, serving 1,190 residents of a small community.

The Chunchuli Alto River becomes impassable for 150 days each year during the rainy season, isolating the community and restricting access to markets, schools, and healthcare. Without a safe crossing, residents struggle to sell crops and livestock, and children often have to take unsafe routes to school. Lizzie raised £2,515 to help cover the costs of materials and tools for the project. Thanks to her commitment and the efforts of her volunteer team, the footbridge was successfully built, providing the community with safe, reliable access and greatly enhancing their quality of life.
