Clemmie Watson

OC Clemmie Watson (2023) spent three months in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, working at the Sandra Jones Centre — a home for children in crisis — and at Malibongwe Primary School.

Clemmie truly hit the ground running, embracing every aspect of life at the Centre. She took girls to horse riding and swimming lessons, ran art sessions, supported older students with homework, and even set up a toddler group for the little ones not yet old enough for primary school.

Carol Smith, Headteacher at Malibongwe, could not speak highly enough of her. “She didn’t complain once — not even about the terrible food!” Carol praised Clemmie’s outstanding work ethic, enthusiasm, compassion, warmth, and gentle humour.

Clemmie embodied Actions Not Words every day of her placement.

On her return we were delighted to welcome her back to Mayfield, where she spoke passionately to our Sixth Form students — and to others hoping to follow in her footsteps — sharing powerful stories from her time abroad and inspiring everyone to live out our school motto:

“Actions Not Words.”
